in the nutshell

being now an adult for reals and incredibly mature, i can look back on my long-lost high school days and make some ingenius (if i do say so myself) deductions about high school life, having now the entire panorama of my high school career in my metaphorical rear-view mirror. indeed, i have made an incredible discovery. i hope you will allow me to share it with you, my gregarious population of readers.

most high school relationships are formed by a combination of distinct social components. to the best of my mathematical abilities, i have calculated these surprisingly uncomplicated ratios, of which the traditional high school friendship is comprised.

  1. 29% common interests (usually pertains to similar tastes in music, television, movies, style, and how one spends one's spare time. in developing friendships, often determined through attendance at the same activites and through interactions with people in similar groups [see #3])
  2. 9-13% text message communication
  3. 24% common friendships (this includes shared friends or time spent with similar or parallel groups of friends. developing friendships often rely heavily on this component, utilizing parties at which the other has been seen, in whose company the other is seen or heard of walking with in the halls, etc. [see note on #1])
  4. 7-41% movie/television/youtube video quoting (often from movies/television shows/youtube videos viewed in each other's company. also can apply to popular to mildly obscure movies/television shows/youtube videos that one party may a.) either expect the other to catch the reference to or b.) use to test the other in their media knowledge and determine whether the other is worthy of a friendship continuance or attempt [in developing friendships])
  5. 11% rumors (most often utilized in a developing friendship)
  6. all the rest% facebook interaction (includes both direct facebook contact [viewing and analyzing pictures, status updates, amount of friends, comments made on others' profiles or pictures, relationship status, political affiliation, and who else contact with is made] as well as the vocal, or "face-to-face" mentioning, discussing, and rumor exchange [see #5]  about said activities on facebook. developing friendships can rely extremely heavily on this.)
i have only mild hopes that this will change in college.... but i am prepared for the worst.
