"once upon a time there was a boy who lived in a house across the field from a girl who no longer exists. they made up a thousand games. she was Queen and he was King. in the autumn light, her hair shone like a crown. they collected the world in small handfuls. when the sky grew dark they parted with leaves in their hair." -- the history of love; nicole krauss
-----------------------
i went to a wedding today.
it was nice.
the flower girl had freckles.
my "bad-boy" cousin had to ask his mom for a tissue.
the bride and groom played with each other's fingers while the bishop talked.
when they kissed, no one knew whether to clap or not.
-----------------------
unfortunately,
the wedding kept me from going to this:
but life continues.
albeit less colorfully.
-----------------------
last night was nice.
i met a depressed dog
and cooked hispanic marshmallows over a bite-sized bonfire in the moonlight
and made plans for monumental fright
and spent an hour
or two
or three
talking about nothing.
-----------------------
i'm currently obsessed with:
the song trapeze swinger by iron & wine.
40s jazz (ella, andrews sisters, frank, bing, etc.)
the good country music (taylor swift.)
-----------------------
my head hurts.
-----------------------
i keep making all these plans in my head for summer.
with people i'm afraid of not being friends with anymore.
-----------------------
tonight is prom.
i'm sitting at home in a t-shirt writing on my blog.
and crying tears of rejection.
hahahha.
did you believe me?
no. i like prom.
i drove around town and saw 98465 people from my school,
paired up in driver's seats and shotguns in snazzy outfits,
silently tossing hair and flirting behind their windshields,
traveling to various romantic activities.
it was nice being a spectator this time.
i giggled with those who thought they'd never get asked,
helped formulate exciting ways to answer dates,
listened to boys tweak their plans to perfection,
passed judgment on dresses,
and am anxiously awaiting pictures.
and tonight, i get to read
and play with my other friends who didn't get asked
(but who DESERVED to!)
and think about how much fun all of my friends are having.
even if it is without me.
(if i were someone else, i'd put a winky emoticon after that concluding statement. but, alas. you get this instead.)
think about it.
beat me daddy, eight to the bar -- the andrews sisters
lullaby of birdland -- ella fitzgerald
don't fence me in -- bing crosby and the andrews sisters
