i have a secret.
but promise me
that you won't tell
a soul.
promise?
good.
i knew i could trust you.
okay.
here it is.
i like happy endings.
and love stories.
there!
augh!
i said it!
don't make me repeat myself!
but seriously.
i really do.
don't get me wrong-- i love unhappy endings as well.
(hmm. well i'm not evil. i just do.)
as long as they teach you something.
most happy endings don't teach you nothin', sonny.
ZERO value.
but that doesn't mean i can't still like some of them.
and love stories.
most of them are cheap, trite, predictable, and nauseating.
too mushy
too unrealistic
too blech.
but.
i am a female.
if a female who is picky about what she's brainwashed with.
so i enjoy the tastefully made chick flick every now and again.
the inspiration behind this all-too-revealing post?
i'm pretty sure the last 2344 books i read (not counting jane eyre and EL&IC)
all had depressing if illuminating endings.
SO last night i had one of those girly moments.
(it was weird. i don't get those too often.)
and ran (skipped? scampered? flitted? what is it those graceful, twitterpated girls do?) to my bookshelf and picked up
pride & prejudice.
would you like to hear how i justify it?
1. it's semi-feminist/satirical
2. unique sentence structure and refreshing use of vocabulary
3. HIGH-larious.
4. i just love jane austen's plot lines. fraught with improbable coincidences that are surprisingly like everyday life.
5. i'm a sucker for mr. darcy.
phew. i'm glad i got that off my chest.
you and i -- wilco & feist
i'm the man who loves you -- wilco
the queen's rebuke -- the decemberists
