i have a best friend.
a bff.
for ever.
and ever.
i call him music.
he is marvelous.
but he also goes by different names.

my dad calls him "crap."
i.e.) "is there any way you can turn that crap off?"
my brother calls him "kind of annoying."
i.e.) "can i choose the music for once? yours is kind of annoying."
my other brother calls him "weird creepy elf music."
i.e.)" lindsey can't hear because she has her headphones in and she's listening to that weird creepy elf music."
my mom doesn't really have a name for him, it's more like an "i'm getting kind of concerned if you can become a functioning member of society when you listen to that kind of music" look.
i.e.) "now who is this singing?" (i tell her band name) "hmmm...." (gives the windshield "the look")

and this is genre-indiscriminate. i could be listening to anything from ravel to led zeppelin; from regina spektor to the beatles; from ella fitzgerald to sufjan stevens: the reaction is the same across the board.
but you know what?
that's okay.
because he's my bff.
if i ditched him just because errbody talks bad about him behind his back, what kind of friend would i be?
you're right.
not a very good one.
