there is something i've become obsessed with since i came to this university.
and in fact, i don't think i'm the only one.
if there is any subject that can get a college student talking, more than tests, classes, professors, or even,
dare i say,

marriage....

yes, even more than that,

it is food.

you could be walking between classes and see one of your best friends in the entire world for the first time in 7 months walking toward you and even if you only have four minutes to talk, you will stick almost exclusively to the topic of food. even if they are coming to cry about the death of their dog, or give you the announcement that their mother is running for president, all that will take a back seat to the incredibly necessary food topic. it's like the mostly-meaningless "'hi' 'how are you' 'fine how are you' 'fine'" base we culturally have to round before we can proceed with a meaningful conversation--it's pretty much obligatory. and not without reason. it's simply all one thinks about when one is constantly in peril of starvation. i swear. whether you're in the bookstore, the library, the dorm or the bathroom, with friends or without them, you will tell anyone who shows the slightest interest all about your eating habits in exhaustive detail: what you ate for breakfast, how well you think you are doing in terms of eating from all the necessary food groups, the things you need to eat more of, the things you need less of, the most exciting recent purchase from the creamery sitting at home in your pantry waiting to be eaten, the most creative dish you were able to throw together from the miscellaneous items in your fridge of the week, what you miss about home food, what you need to eat up before it spoils (would you like some?) and how it all makes you feel. digestively and emotionally.
and the worst part is?
you don't even notice it until after you've finished.

oh crap.
i just did it again.

barlights -- fun.
don't wake me up -- the hush sound
