pretentious fool

i got it.
yesterday.
i walked into my house, and there it was.
sitting innocently on my kitchen table.
as if it didn't know i'd been waiting for it for weeks.
it was wrapped beautifully in a postal shroud.
postmarked illinois.
if i had more willing tear ducts i likely would have gotten a bit choked up at the sight.
i unwrapped it.
i allowed myself a small squeal.
no one else was home.
so i felt dumb.
but i forgot it the next moment.
because i lifted the creation from its tattered coccoon
and ran my hands over the cover.
all 1,184 pages of it.
and as soon as i finish the 7 new books i have recieved
within the last three weeks
i'll begin in earnest.
but for now, i read a couple poems or a story a day.

"and what is not a dream by day
to him whose eyes are cast
on things around him with a ray
turned back upon the past?"
-- from A Dream; published 1827

sheer beauty.
