hello dear blog.
i've missed you quite a bit over the holidays, but i'm ready to talk to you again.
number one thing i have to tell you: christmas was good. cold. not extravagant. full of gift cards. and wrapped inside my new snuggie. i got a gift card to that heaven of coffee-smellers and bookworms -- barnes and noble. which goes with my
number two thing i have to tell you: i spent new years eve in FREAKING ST. GEORGE WITH MY FAMILY. i missed out on like 8723564 parties at home to sit on a strange couch with my silent brothers in the half-dark and watch strangers count down to twothousandandten on the television. during the time-warp i listened to we own the sky by m83 and i thought it appropriate that that be both the last song i listened to in twothousandandnine and the first song in twothousandandten. but anyways. i spent about three hours wandering the shelves in the st. george barnes and noble. During the excursion, I was followed by a creep, listened to the sample of mew's no more stories are told today/ i'm sorry they washed away/ no more stories the world is grey/ i'm tired let's wash away album and fell in love, resolved to go to greywhale as soon as i can and purchase the masterpiece, decided on four books (the beatiful and damned by f. scott fitzgerald, the picture of dorian grey by oscar wilde [i finally have my own copy!], the iliad by homer, and slaughterhouse five by kurt vonnegut) and drank an icy double-chocolate chip frappuchino and perused my purchases.
number three thing: i also was given an itunes gift card for christmas. i purchased some m. ward, mew, little dragon, joshua james, grizzly bear, m83, andrew bird, bon iver, and arcade fire. so far.
number four thing: i am reading the most phenomenal book right now. the story of edgar sawtelle is, at first glance, a questionable mix of hamlet, the jungle book, and my antonia, but i'm only halfway through it and i already love it. maybe it's because i loved hamlet so much and just recently read it for my literature class, but i love finding the subtle (and obvious) similarities between the two. not to mention the writing is unreal, creating a world you can step into so easily but is as intangibly perfect as if it were behind a pane of glass.
number five thing: the cost of our choir tour just dropped about $300. YES YES YES YES
number six thing: at the moment, my mom has my brothers trapped in our upstairs room amongst our bookshelves and is trying to force literacy upong them once and for all. i'll let you know if it works. i have no idea why i can't put a book down and they cringe at the sight of one.
number seven thing: men are infuriating. innocently cryptic. and will play racquetball with your heart without so much as a shrug, gazing apathetically as it arcs from highest hopes to a shattering crash upon the floor, and back up, down, back and forth, and don't notice or care either way.
L, i wish i knew you better at Lone Peak because
