but.
in keeping with my late pattern of doing things i hate, i'm actually going to follow through with it.
(eeaaghhh. and i really really didn't think i was going to.)
you wanna know what two things convinced me?
well, the prompt is actually well written and thought-provoking. (BING BING BING now that's something you don't come across on the internet every day!)
aaaaaand..... i had to read an essay for my creative writing class today by a man named lance larsen, a professor at my illustrious university. and you want to know what he said (among other marvelous things) about writing?
"write every day. and if not every day, then as regularly as possible. everyone's heard a version of the following story. an accomplished world class pianist plays for an enthralled audience. afterward, an admirer approaches the pianist and without thinking blurts out, "i'd give anything in the world to play like that." yes, anything except what the pianist gave--five and a half hours a day for twenty years...most successful writers, like concert pianists and competitive athletes, have consistent work habits...according to one source, 'picasso once said, "i don't know if inspiration exists, but when it comes, it usually finds me working."''
gah.
talk about a guilt trip.
(p.s. did you like the triple quotation marks at the end?)
and then i thought, "oh wait, i do kind of write regularly. it's certainly not awesome and rarely thought out, but my blog can count! ......eagh. wait. i haven't really written in it consistently for a while."
and, well, that's where this stupid 30 days thing comes in.
except, it's not stupid.
or, at least, i'm determined to make it not stupid.
so, there you go. a promise to write more regularly, at least for the next 30 days.
.....yeah the first post will come later.
until then, look at this!
sigh no more -- mumford & sons
wild thing -- noah & the whale
i'm looking through you -- the beatles
